AI Features & How They Work
Lunara uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse your child's tracking data and generate personalised insights. Understanding how our AI works — and its limitations — is important.
How AI insights are generated
Lunara's AI analyses patterns across your child's sleep, feeding, growth, and milestone data simultaneously. It applies pattern-recognition models calibrated to published paediatric research and clinical guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to produce insights and recommendations personalised to your child's age and historical data.
Important limitations of AI outputs
- AI guidance provided by Lunara is educational and informational only
- Lunara's AI is not a doctor, paediatrician, therapist, psychologist, or any kind of healthcare provider
- AI outputs should never be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- In any medical situation or emergency, always contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency services immediately
- AI models are reviewed and updated periodically by Lunara's paediatric advisory team, but they may not reflect the most recent clinical guidelines at all times
- Your child's data is processed within your account to generate insights for your family only — we do not share individual child data with third parties to train shared AI models
Data used by AI features
The AI processes tracking data you have entered into the app — sleep logs, feeding records, growth measurements, and milestone data. It uses this data solely to generate insights for your account. AI interaction history (your questions and the AI's responses) is stored within your account and is not used to train shared models for other users.

Children's Privacy
Lunara is an application designed exclusively for use by adults — specifically parents, guardians, and caregivers of children. The application is not directed at children and is not intended to be used by individuals under the age of 18.
How child information is handled
- All child profile information is entered by and controlled by the parent or guardian who created the account
- Children do not have separate accounts or interact directly with the application
- Parents may create, edit, update, or delete child profiles and all associated tracking data at any time through the application settings
- Child data is linked exclusively to the parent's account and is accessible only by the parent and any caregivers the parent has explicitly invited to share access
COPPA compliance (United States)
Lunara does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 years of age. All information relating to children in the application is provided by adults who are the child's parent or legal guardian, in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we become aware that we have inadvertently received direct personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Children's data rights
Parents and guardians may exercise data rights on behalf of their children at any time, including the right to access, correct, export, or delete all data associated with a child profile. See Section 11 — Your Rights and Section 12 — Account Deletion for full details.
Data Sharing
We share data only in the limited circumstances described below, and only to the minimum extent necessary:
☁️ Cloud Infrastructure Providers
Lunara uses cloud hosting providers to store and process data securely. These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are contractually bound by strict data processing and security requirements. They do not use your data for any purpose other than providing infrastructure services to Lunara.
📊 Analytics Providers
We may use analytics services to understand aggregated, anonymised usage patterns across the application. Analytics data does not include personal child health information and is used solely to improve the application.
✨ AI Service Providers
To generate AI insights, some data may be processed by AI infrastructure providers. These providers are bound by data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data to train their general AI models or sharing your data with third parties. We take commercially reasonable steps to ensure AI providers meet our privacy standards.
💳 Payment Providers
Subscription and billing transactions are processed by authorised payment providers such as Apple and Google through their respective in-app purchase systems. Lunara receives only transaction confirmation tokens; full payment details are held exclusively by those providers under their own privacy policies.
⚖️ Legal Obligations
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or lawful request from a government authority. We will notify users of such requests where legally permitted to do so.
🏢 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of Lunara's assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users via email and/or a prominent notice in the application prior to any such transfer and inform users of any changes to how their data will be handled.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data and your child's tracking data for as long as your account remains active. When your account is active, all data you have entered is retained to provide the full historical functionality of the application — including long-term growth curves, developmental timelines, and vaccination history.
- Active accounts: Data is retained and accessible for the lifetime of your account
- Deleted accounts: Upon account deletion, all personal data and child tracking data is permanently deleted within 30 days, subject to the exceptions below
- Inactive accounts: Accounts with no activity for 24 consecutive months may receive a notice prompting you to confirm continued use; accounts confirmed as no longer needed may be closed
Retention exceptions
Certain categories of data may be retained beyond account deletion for the following reasons:
- Financial transaction records required for tax, accounting, or legal compliance purposes (typically 7 years under Indian company law)
- Anonymised, aggregated data that does not identify any individual
- Data subject to an active legal hold, regulatory investigation, or dispute resolution process
- Fraud prevention and security records where required to prevent harm
Data Security
Lunara takes the security of your family's data seriously and implements commercially reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.
- Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between the application and our servers is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security)
- Encryption at rest: Stored data is encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption
- Password security: Passwords are never stored in plain text; they are processed using one-way cryptographic hashing
- Access controls: Access to production systems and user data is restricted to authorised personnel on a strict need-to-know basis
- Authentication: The application supports secure authentication mechanisms including token-based session management
- Security monitoring: We monitor our systems for suspicious activity, unauthorised access attempts, and security incidents
- Per-family data isolation: AI processing infrastructure uses per-account data isolation to prevent cross-contamination between family datasets
International Users
Lunara is operated from India and serves users globally. When you use Lunara, your data may be processed or stored in countries other than your country of residence, depending on the location of our cloud infrastructure and service providers.
- European Union users (GDPR): If you are located in the EEA, your data may be transferred to countries outside the EEA. Where such transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission
- United States users: Lunara implements practices aligned with HIPAA's security and privacy standards for health information, even though Lunara is not a covered entity under HIPAA. We treat your child's health tracking data with the same level of protection
- India users (DPDP Act): Processing of personal data is conducted in accordance with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) 2023. You have the rights afforded under that Act, including the right to consent, access, correction, and erasure
